A short history:
This sari - a temple sari - was woven in Kancheepuram, in the Tamil Nadu district of South India, where silk weaving is a centuries old tradition. Silk was always considered the ceremonial wear at religious rituals and weddings, and history says that at one time there were more than 100 temples in the small town - thus the tradition of silk sari weaving arose out of the temple traditions with the famous Kamakshi temple situated in Kancheepuram.

Every Kancheepuram silk sari is amongst the most superior of silks in the world. The sari is woven with dyed silk yarn which is interleaved with zari - a silk thread which is twisted with a thin silver wire and then gilded with pure gold by dipping the twisted thread into liquid gold. This enhances the beauty and value of the silk, producing a beautiful lustre as seen in the photographs below.
